Dr. Alistair Middleton Center for Plant Integrative Biology University of Nottingham United Kingdom
Unravelling the gibberellin signalling network The Centre for Plant Integrative Biology (CPIB) aims to develop multiscale models of hormone-regulated root growth and development. The hormone gibberellin (GA) regulates root elongation in / Arabidopsis/. Gibberellin functions in part by targeting DELLA growth regulatory proteins for degradation via SCF^SLY1 mediated ubiquitination. We have developed a mathematical model of a plant cell’s response to a GA stimulus. This describes the dynamics of the GA biosynthesis and perception pathways. The model is found to be in good agreement with several gene-expression time-series data sets, taken from mutant and wild-type GA treated roots. I will also discuss a model that describes a coupling between the gene network and cell growth, which allows us to understand how changes at the molecular scale determine the tissue-scale phenotype.
